SCG, tập đoàn công nghiệp hàng đầu Thái Lan, tuyên bố sẽ rót 3,7 tỷ USD vào dự án Khu liên hợp hóa dầu Long Sơn, thuộc tỉnh Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu, nơi đặt nhà máy lọc dầu số 3 của Việt Nam.
Chủ tịch SCG Kan Trakulhoon khẳng định thông tin này sau buổi tiếp kiến Thủ tướng Nguyễn Tấn Dũng tại Hà Nội đầu tuần này.
Khu liên hợp hóa dầu tại Long Sơn của SCG đang trong giai đoạn xin giấy chứng nhận đầu tư. Giai đoạn một của dự án dự kiến hoàn thành vào năm 2011 và toàn bộ dự án sẽ hoàn tất vào năm 2013.
SCG cho biết sẽ ứng dụng những công nghệ thân thiện với môi trường và tiên tiến nhất vào khâu thiết kế, vận hành và quản lý khu liên hợp. Ngoài ra, dự án cũng sẽ tạo khoảng 15.000 việc làm trong quá trình xây dựng và gần 5.000 lao động tay nghề cao sẽ được tuyển khi khu liên hợp đi vào hoạt động.
Được thành lập từ năm 1913, SCG là tập đoàn hoạt động đa ngành, tập trung vào 5 lĩnh vực chính là hóa dầu, sản xuất giấy, xi măng, vật liệu xây dựng và phân phối, với doanh thu bình quân hằng năm đạt 7,6 tỷ đôla Mỹ. Tại Việt Nam, SCG bắt đầu hoạt động từ năm 1990 và hiện có 7 công ty con trong các lĩnh vực hóa dầu, sản xuất giấy, vật liệu xây dựng và phân phối.

Siam Cement plans $3.7 bln Vietnam chemical project
Siam Cement, Thailand's top industrial conglomerate, plans to invest $3.7 billion in a major petrochemical complex in southern Vietnam, local media reported Monday.
The complex is to be built in Long Son in the oil hub province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, adjacent to the site of Vietnam's third, and possibly its biggest oil refinery, the Vietnam Investment Review weekly quoted SCC Chief Executive Kan Trakulhoon as saying.
Trakulhoon who presented the project to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung last week said it had received support from the Vietnamese government.
If approved, the project would be completed by 2013, he said.
Hanoi has yet to pick investors for the 240,000-barrel-per-day Long Son refinery, which has attracted strong interest from foreign firms because of its proximity to the main consumption centres including the Mekong delta and industrial parks around Ho Chi Minh City.
State oil Petrovietnam is building Dung Quat refinery, the country's first, which will come online in early 2009 with a capacity of about 140,000 bpd.
It is also planning another refinery, Nghi Son, in the country's north with a capacity of about 170,000 bpd, as the government aims to be oil product self-sufficent by 2015.
