Hoan Vu Joint Operating Co. is expecting its Ca Ngu Vang field to begin production at an initial rate of 20,000 b/d of oil from up to six producing wells in July 2008. Production is expected to ramp up subsequently to a maximum of 70,000 b/d of oil.

Hoan Vu is now drilling the second of four development wells in about 57 metres (187 ft) of water using jackup PV Drilling 1. The joint venture will also be converting two appraisal wells drilled last year to oil producers. The six wells will be tied to a 1,200-tonne (1,320-ton) wellhead platform scheduled for delivery in mid 2008. The platform's topsides are being fabricated in Batam, Indonesia, while the jacket is being constructed in Vung Tau, Vietnam.

The wellhead platform will be connected via two 26-kilometre (16-mile) pipelines to a satellite platform in the nearby Bach Ho field. Clough Thailand will deploy pipelay barge Java Constructor to perform the pipelay work, including retrofit riser and subsea tie-in operations from early April 2008. The offshore pipelay component is scheduled to take place from early 2008 and will take about 60 days to complete.

The Ca Ngu Vang field is operated by Hoan Vu Joint Operating Co., a joint venture held 50 percent by PetroVietnam Exploration Production Co. and 25 per cent interests each by UK-based SOCO and Thailand's PTTEP.
