Emerson today announced plans to invest US $40 million (more than one billion RUR) for building a new plant that will initially employ more than 1,000 people – and that could reach employment totaling 1,600 by 2025.
The selected eight-hectare site is situated in the North-Western District of Chelyabinsk at the intersection of Komsomolsky and Novogradsky Avenues. The plan is that production area of the building will comprise 24,000 sq. meters, with the opportunity for future expansion up to 43,000 sq. meters.
Emerson Process Management businesses and activities which initially will be represented at the new facility include: instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level, flow, including wireless and nuclear measurement technologies); metrology (measurement) operations which provide solutions for customers’ plants; valves and controls; and process control systems engineering. The company also will continue to develop such important organizations as the Global Engineering Center, Customer Support Center and other functions supporting its business in Russia. Long-term plans include the establishment of Shared Services organizations which will be able to support various Emerson businesses.
"Russia continues to be a strong market for Emerson technologies and services, and we see increasing opportunities to expand our presence in the years ahead,” said Emerson President and Chief Operating Officer Edward L. Monser. “This investment demonstrates our long-term commitment to our customers across Russia and employees in Chelyabinsk region."
Emerson, through its Emerson Process Management business, has had a significant presence in the Chelyabinsk region since 2004 when it became an investor in and partner of Metran Industrial Group, based in Chelyabinsk. In 2009, Emerson fully acquired Metran and made it part of its Emerson Process Management business. Since then, Emerson has made significant investments in Chelyabinsk, including the establishment of a Global Engineering Center and partnering with South Ural State University on various research and training initiatives.
Today, innovative Metran products are designed and produced in Chelyabinsk and are used by customers across Russia and the CIS countries to ensure more efficient use of energy resources, improve environmental and technological safety of operations, and help companies reduce costs and produce high quality products.
Chelyabinsk Region Governor Mikhail Yurevich said: "In April 2011, during the conference South Ural Innovation Days, we signed an agreement with Emerson to cooperate on innovation. We are very happy to see continued collaboration and cooperation between the Chelyabinsk Region and Emerson in fulfilling the agreement. The construction of a new facility is another step in the development of innovative manufacturing in Russia."
Emerson has been continually investing and implementing improvements at plants and technology centers in many key global markets. Monser said the new investments maintain the company’s "ongoing strategy to efficiently and effectively reposition and strengthen Emerson in key locations around the world".
The design and construction of the new Emerson facility will begin in 2013 and it is expected be completed in 2015.
