The Ringhorne platform stands as a testament to advanced offshore engineering, serving as a combined drilling, wellhead, and accommodation facility operated by Vår Energi in the Norwegian North Sea.Located approximately 9 kilometers northeast of the Balder field, this impressive structure acts as a central hub for producing oil and gas from both the Ringhorne and Ringhorne Øst fields. Since its installation in 2002 and commencement of production in 2003, the platform has been a critical component in Norway's energy infrastructure.
With roughly 22 well slots accommodating both production and water injection wells, the Ringhorne platform is renowned for its capability to drill incredibly deep wells. Some wells reach horizontal displacements of up to 7,558 meters, showcasing the remarkable technological achievements in modern offshore drilling operations.
Due to its limited storage capabilities, the platform efficiently transfers extracted fluids to the Balder Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel and the Jotun FPSO for final processing. The processed oil is subsequently offloaded to shuttle tankers, while the extracted natural gas is routed to continental Europe through the Statpipe pipeline system.
