Ngày 16/4, nhân chuyến thăm của Thứ trưởng Bộ Ngoại giao Canada- Leonard J. Edwards tới Việt Nam, Talisman Energy- công ty khai thác thăm dò dầu khí của Canada đã công bố tài trợ 2 suất học bổng toàn phần học cao học tại Trường Đại học Alberta, Canada cho Việt Nam.

CôngThương - Chương trình học bổng sẽ dành cho các công dân Việt Nam cơ hội học cao học ngành dầu khí tại trường Đại học Tổng hợp Alberta. Công ty Talisman sẽ tài trợ toàn phần chương trình học bổng này. Các ngành học được tài trợ bao gồm địa chất, địa vật lý, kỹ sư môi trường và MBA chuyên về quản lý năng lượng - những ngành hiện Việt Nam đang rất thiếu nguồn nhân lực trình độ cao.

Chương trình này cũng nhằm thúc đẩy trao đổi văn hóa và giáo dục giữa Việt Nam và thế giới trong năm nay - Năm Ngoại giao của Việt Nam. Ông Paul Atkinson, Phó Tổng Giám đốc Talisman Việt Nam cho biết, ngành dầu khí đòi hỏi nguồn nhân lực có trình độ rất cao và hiện Việt Nam đang đặc biệt cần đào tạo thêm nguồn nhân lực cho ngành này. Bởi vậy, Talisman rất vui mừng được dành cơ hội học tập tuyệt vời này cho các công dân Việt Nam, đặc biệt là các bạn trẻ.

Tại Việt Nam, Talisman là nhà điều hành của các lô 133/134, lô 46 Cái Nước và PM3-CAA (Khu chồng lấn thương mại với Malaysia). Talisman cũng là thành viên của Công ty điều hành chung Trường Sơn (lô 46/02) và Thăng Long (lô 15-2/01). Ngoài chương trình học bổng này, Talisman còn hỗ trợ một loạt các chương trình phát triển cộng đồng khác tại Việt Nam như an toàn giao thông, sức khỏe cộng đồng và hỗ trợ giáo dục cho trẻ em khuyết tật.

1. Talisman Energy

With the objectives of contribution to enhancing quality of the local workforce in oil and gas industry of Vietnam, Talisman Vietnam Limited (TVL) is pleased to sponsor two full postgraduate scholarships for fall enrolment of academic year 2010 for Vietnamese professionals wishing to undertake a Master’s degree in petroleum related fields at the University of Alberta (U of A), Canada.

2. Talisman Postgraduate Scholarship and Eligible Fields of Study

The scholarships aim to provide opportunities for postgraduate study at the U of A for young professionals in early or mid-career, who demonstrate both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion-formers in Vietnam.

Up to two scholarships are available for study for the following maximum two-year full-time postgraduate Master's programs in the below fields. You can choose to apply only for one of the following degrees:

MSc. in Integrated Petroleum Geosciences

MSc. in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (focus on Geology)

MSc. in Physics (focus on Geophysics)

MSc./MEng in Civil and Environmental Engineering (specialization in Petroleum Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering)

MSc./MEng in Chemical and Materials Engineering

MSc./MEng in Mechanical Engineering

MBA, with specialization in Natural Resources, Energy and Environment

Each scholarship provides tuition fees at the U of A, a stipend to cover living costs (for one person only) for maximum two years and return air travel to Vietnam (the return flight must be taken within three weeks of completion of the program of study).

3. Who is eligible to apply?

This scholarship is intended for indiiduals who:

display intellectual ability and leadership potential;

provide written evidence of an adequate English Language standard - IELTS band score 6.5 (with not less than 6.0 in any skill) or paper based TOEFL minimum score of 580 (paper-based) or a total score of 100 with a score of at least 20 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based).

Individuals applying for the MBA degree need to provide either GMAT score minimum 600 (paper-based) or 100 (internet-based) with at least 20 on each of the individual skill area or GRE 1100 total (verbal 450 and quantitative 650) in addition to the English Language skills evidence above.

Applicants will normally be expected to:

be nationals of, and normally resident in Vietnam during the academic year in which they apply for the award (applicants who are temporarily out of the country for a total period of less than three consecutive months may be treated as being resident) and intend to return their home country at the end of the period of study;

have a good academic record. Only candidates with an "excellent" (gioi or xuat sac - 8.0+) or "good" (kha - 7.5+) first degree will be considered.

have a proven track record and potential to rise to positions of influence;

be between 25 and 35 years of age;

not already have received or be currently receiving financial benefit from a previous Government-Funded Scholarship;

not already had the chance of studying in Canada or another developed country;

not already been awarded a university doctorate from another academic institution;

Industry experience would be a plus

4. Application process

Candidates, wishing to be considered for the scholarship need to make two separate applications 1) admission to the U of A 2) competition for the scholarship. As such, candidates should go through an application process as described below:

First, applicants should send the following documents to the address indicated at the end of the guidelines by September 30, 2009 for support of the University application fee:

Fully filled and signed application form for the scholarship (form can be downloaded from here)

Written evidence of an adequate English Language standard - IELTS band score 6.5 (with not less than 6.0 in any skill) or paper based TOEFL minimum score of 580 (paper-based) or a total score of 100 with a score of at least 20 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based).

Written evidence of English Language standard and GMAT score minimum 550 or GRE 1100 total (verbal 450 and quantitative 650) if you apply for MBA degree

Notarized English translation of university transcripts

Notarized copy of birth certificate

Copy of identity card or passport

Your up-to-date CV summarizing your qualifications and work experience

After being notified by TVL, you should apply for admission directly to the U of A. You are responsible for meeting all of the university's admission requirements and deadlines. You must indicate on your application to the U of A that you are applying for the Talisman Vietnam Postgraduate Scholarship Program. Given that admission requirements are normally complex, and they vary for different departments, you are advised to familiarize yourselves with this step as early as you can to obtain an admission to the University. May 12, 2009 at 14:00 p.m.: Information Day in HCMC to be organized at Talisman Office, Sai Gon Tower, 29 Le Duan Street, Floor 18, HCMC

May 14, 2009 Tuesday at 14:00 p.m.: Information Day in Hanoi to be organized at the Canadian Embassy, 31 Hung Vuong, Hanoi Talisman and university rep will be at the information day to answer questions you may have with regard to this scholarship program and to university admission. Please call Talisman Vietnam (number indicated at the end of this document) to confirm your attendance.

Sept. 30, 2009: Deadline for receiving application

Oct. 31, 2009: Notice to students who have been shortlisted for application fee

Nov. 1, 2009 – February 28, 2010: Students to apply for university admission, deadlines vary by dept.

March 30, 2010: Notice to students selected for interview

April, 2010: Interview and announcement of final winners

August, 2010: Departure for Canada

The information that you provide in the application form will be a major factor in determining the short-list for interview. You are asked to complete the application form carefully and pay particular attention to the questions. Please bear in mind that the final decision to make an award will be influenced by your performance in the interview.
